The World Was Watching Closely

People around the world have been following this American election very closely. Many felt they had a lot invested in it’s outcome, and it seems they were largely elated about Obama’s win.

Alex rates Tuesday night as a highlight of her life:

Although I have been interested in politics since grade 6, watching this election has been one of the most amazing, dividing, and emotional experiences I have ever had in a political context. Normally, hearing a candidate say anything about hope, about strength in unity, it all feels false. But listening to Obama speak while watching TV in that bar, it brought back that hope. Will this be the cure-all? No. But he has a strength and calm power that can’t be denied.

To stand on the streets of Toronto, and to watch history be made, was one of the best experiences I have had. People were screaming and hugging, and I couldn’t stop smiling.

She ends with “Yes we can. And we did. Let’s not let each other down.”
